To be eligible for membership in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets a candidate must:

  • be a legal resident of Canada;
  • provide proof of provincial health insurance coverage or equivalent;
  • be at least 12 years of age;
  • not have attained 19 years of age;
  • normally be in good physical condition;
  • not belong to another corps or squadron; and
  • be acceptable to the Commanding Officer of the cadet corps or squadron.

Step 1 – Contact Us: First you will need to make contact with us expressing your interest in joining. [email protected] Alternatively you can call us (250-339-9198) making sure you provide your first name, surnamedate of birth, and telephone number. (Leave a message on our answering machine if you are calling outside parade nights, and we will contact you as soon as possible).

If you are ready to register your son/daughter you can fill out an application form (CF-1158) online at https://registration.cadets.gc.ca/get-started.html
First type 386 into the Unit Name to find us, which will pre-populate the Unit Name field.  A valid email address is required to start the application online.  By filling out this application online, an email is sent to the Squadron and we will have your name and information ready to go.  All you would need to bring to our Intake Evening (Step 3) is the required identification (Birth Certificate, Health Care information, Passport) in person.  It will save you and the Squadron a lot of time not filling out the application by hand.

Step 2 – Visit Us: When we receive your interest in joining us, your details will be passed on to our recruitment officer. You will then be contacted and invited to attend an informal meeting, where you will be able to see the squadron, find out about the organization and what we can offer you.  More importantly, you have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. You will be asked to attend with your parent or guardian.

Step 3 – Recruitment Intake Evening: You will be sent a letter or email usually a week or two before the recruit intake evening inviting you to attend.  On this evening you will be spoken to by the Commanding Officer and the Squadron Warrant Officer/SNCO who will go into more detail about the organization with your parents. You will then have a go at a cadet activity while your parent or guardian fills out the necessary paperwork. Do not be shy about this evening. You will be with a number of other new recruits (usually between 8 and 15) who are in the same boat as you.

Step 4 – Begin your Air Cadet Career: After the recruitment intake evening, if you have decided that the organization is for you, then you will be expected to attend the next parade night to begin your recruit training and journey into the best uniformed youth organization in the country.

Late Joiner Policy

Cadets who join at age 12 will be placed in Level One and they will advance through one training level each year.

Individuals who join at 13 or older may be placed directly in Level Two or Three.  This decision is made by the Commanding Officer, in consultation with the Training Officer and the late joiner.  Cadets who fall under this policy will be interviewed to determine if they are interested and are likely to be successful if placed directly in Level 2 or 3.
